Esperanza notices her fathers emotions of pain and grief because it was extremely uncommon for her father to expose these feelings. My own grandmother passed on from a heart attack and my father was the messenger. After informing me of this unfortunate news he emotionally collapsed.   I, like Esperanza, did not know what to do next, as this was rare. So, I allowed him to grieve without any interruption. .
